You know YouTube has become a huge phenomenon when The Vatican launches Pope Benedict XVI’s YouTube channel. CTV.ca ran an online article January 23rd to announce Benedict joining the digital generation in amateur video engineering.  The article writes “The Vatican said it was launching the channel to broaden Benedict’s audience while also giving the Holy See better control over the papal image online.”

Says Pope Benedict XVI:

“New technologies have an extraordinary potential if used to favour understanding and human solidarity. These technologies are a real gift for humanity: therefore we have to make sure the advantages they offer are put to the service of all peoples and communities. “

The Vatican’s YouTube channel proposes to cover the activities of Benedict as well as relevant Vatican events. The channel is updated daily.

Hello All… January 25, 2009

My name is Rachel Croft and as you can probably guess, I’m fairly new to WordPress! I recently signed up for an account for my Pop Culture and Communication course taken at the University of Ottawa. Part of the course requirements are to create a WordPress account and blog away at whatever tickles our fancy…well, mostly dealing with our culture and how technology is involved, but that’s interesting anyways! Hopefully I’ll be able to keep my blog up-to-date with topics that I find that are both relevant to the course material as well as appealing and entertaining to the viewers who check this out. You won’t regret it…at least I hope you won’t!

Peace & love

It’s the movies that have really been running things in America ever since they were invented. They show you what to do, how to do it, when to do it, how to feel about it, and how to look how you feel about it. ” -Andy Warhol
